    Planning & reference

Reserva Nacional Los Ruiles offers a raw, untamed Chilean wilderness experience far from the crowds. We love the feeling of true solitude here, where the ancient Ruiles trees stand as silent sentinels over the landscape. It’s a place for quiet contemplation and appreciating the subtle beauty of a less-visited natural treasure.

    Gate Times

The park is generally open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but we advise checking the official CONAF website for the most up-to-date hours, especially during the shoulder seasons. Entry is typically on a first-come, first-served basis, though during peak Chilean holidays, arriving early is recommended. No advance booking is usually required for general entry.

    Tipping

Tipping is not a deeply ingrained custom here as it might be in other safari destinations. However, if you receive exceptional service from a private guide or lodge staff, a gratuity of 5-10% of the service cost is appreciated. For park rangers, a small thank you gift or a direct donation to the park's conservation efforts is more appropriate than cash.

    Dress Code

We recommend neutral, earth-toned clothing for game drives and walks to blend in with the environment. Layers are essential; mornings can be cool, while afternoons warm up considerably. Think breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, with a good waterproof and windproof outer layer. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, and a wide-brimmed hat for sun protection is invaluable.

    Photography

Photography is generally permitted, but we advise against using flash photography directly at wildlife, as it can disturb them. Drones are typically prohibited within national parks in Chile unless specific permits are obtained in advance, which can be a complex process. Focus on capturing the unique flora and the dramatic landscapes; the light here is often soft and beautiful, especially during the golden hours.

    Etiquette

Maintain a quiet demeanor on drives and walks to avoid startling wildlife. Always stay within designated paths and never approach animals too closely. We believe in respecting the animals' space and observing them from a safe distance. In camp, keep noise levels down and be mindful of other visitors' experiences.
