The slender-billed vulture faces severe threats from poisoning, particularly from veterinary drugs like diclofenac, and habitat loss. While recovery programs are underway, including captive breeding and community awareness initiatives, the population remains critically low. Responsible safari tourism helps by providing economic incentives for local communities to protect wildlife and their habitats, and by funding conservation efforts through park fees and eco-friendly practices.
The slender-billed vulture is an Old World vulture species native to sub-Himalayan regions and Southeast Asia. It is Critically Endangered since 2002 as the population on the Indian subcontinent has declined rapidly. As of 2021, fewer than 870 mature individuals are thought to remain.
