Mountain gorillas face threats from habitat loss due to human encroachment and poaching. However, dedicated conservation efforts, including anti-poaching patrols and community engagement, have led to a slow but steady population increase. The mountain gorilla is one of the two subspecies of the eastern gorilla. It is listed as endangered by the IUCN as of 2018.
