Faces a high risk of extinction in the wild.

The Long-tailed Duck faces threats from habitat loss due to climate change and pollution in its marine wintering grounds. While specific large-scale recovery programs are limited, monitoring efforts are ongoing. Responsible safari tourism helps by raising awareness of these birds and their fragile Arctic and coastal habitats, and by supporting local communities who are often the first line of defense in conservation.

The long-tailed duck is a medium-sized sea duck that breeds in the tundra and taiga regions of the arctic and winters along the northern coastlines of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It is the only member of the genus Clangula.
