We love Rock Fig Lodge for its unique position just outside Madikwe. While staying inside the reserve offers ultimate immersion, Rock Fig provides a slightly more relaxed pace with excellent access. You still get incredible game viewing opportunities on guided drives into Madikwe, but the lodge itself offers a comfortable, luxurious base to unwind.

Absolutely. Rock Fig Lodge is wonderfully family friendly. While the main activities are the thrilling game drives into Madikwe, the lodge itself has lovely grounds for kids to explore, and the staff are fantastic at making younger guests feel welcome and engaged. We recommend booking family friendly game drive vehicles in advance.

You'll also encounter incredible birdlife, giraffes, zebras, and a host of other plains game. The reserve is known for its wild dog sightings too, which are always a thrill.

We find the dry winter months, from May to September, offer the best game viewing. The vegetation thins out, making animals easier to spot, and they tend to congregate around water sources. The weather is cooler during the day and can be quite chilly in the early mornings and evenings, so pack layers.
