Frequently Asked Questions

We're considering Farm House for a family trip. What's the best way to experience Mabalingwe Nature Reserve from there, and is it suitable for younger children?

We absolutely love Farm House as a base for exploring Mabalingwe. For families, we recommend booking private game drives; this allows you to set the pace and focus on sightings that will captivate younger guests. While Mabalingwe is known for its rhino, you'll also find plenty of plains game, and the lodge itself offers a relaxed atmosphere that's very welcoming to children.

What kind of wildlife can we realistically expect to see on a game drive departing from Farm House, and are there any particular highlights we shouldn't miss?

On game drives out of Farm House, we consistently spot a good variety of plains game like zebra, giraffe, and wildebeest. The real magic, however, is the chance to see white rhino, as Mabalingwe is a sanctuary for them. We also love the smaller details – keep an eye out for fascinating birdlife and smaller mammals often overlooked on busier reserves.

We're looking for a truly relaxing safari experience. How does Farm House cater to guests who want to unwind, perhaps with a spa treatment or quiet activities?

Farm House excels at providing a tranquil escape. We highly recommend indulging in their spa treatments after a morning game drive; the setting is serene and the therapists are excellent. Beyond the spa, the lodge grounds are perfect for quiet contemplation, and the catch and release fishing offers a peaceful way to spend an afternoon by the water.

When is the optimal time to visit Farm House and Mabalingwe for the best weather and wildlife viewing opportunities?

We find the dry winter months, from May to September, offer the most rewarding experience at Farm House. The weather is pleasantly cool, and the bush thins out, making wildlife sightings much easier. While the summer months are warmer and greener, attracting more migratory birds for keen birders, the dry season is our preferred time for general game viewing.

As a luxury hotel, what are the typical costs associated with a stay at Farm House, and are game drives and other activities included?

Farm House is certainly a luxury offering, and you can expect rates reflecting that quality. Typically, accommodation includes meals, but game drives and spa treatments are usually additional costs. We advise checking directly with the lodge for their current packages, as they sometimes offer all-inclusive options that can represent good value for a comprehensive safari experience.
