Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of wildlife can we realistically expect to see right at La Lechere Guesthouse itself, beyond the main Kruger Park drives?

While La Lechere is primarily a comfortable base for exploring Kruger, we've often spotted impala and various bird species grazing peacefully on the grounds. It’s a lovely, relaxed introduction to the bush before heading into the park for the Big Five.

We're planning a trip in July. Is this a good time to stay at La Lechere and explore Kruger, and what should we pack?

July is fantastic for wildlife viewing in Kruger as the vegetation thins out and animals congregate around water sources. We recommend packing layers – mornings and evenings can be surprisingly chilly, so bring a warm jacket, but days are usually pleasant. Think comfortable walking shoes and sun protection.

What's the general vibe at La Lechere? Is it more of a social hub or a quiet retreat?

La Lechere strikes a wonderful balance. We love that it feels like a welcoming home away from home, with opportunities to chat with fellow travelers over a sundowner, yet it also offers plenty of quiet nooks for personal reflection. It’s never overwhelmingly busy, always feeling relaxed and personal.

Beyond the standard Kruger game drives, are there any unique activities or experiences we should book through La Lechere?

We highly recommend arranging a guided bush walk directly through the guesthouse if available. It offers a completely different perspective on the smaller details of the bush – the insects, the plants, the tracks – that you miss from a vehicle. It’s an intimate and incredibly insightful experience.

What are the dining arrangements like at La Lechere, and are there good local restaurant options nearby if we want to venture out?

The meals at La Lechere are a highlight for us; they’re hearty, delicious, and served in a convivial atmosphere. While there are a few local spots a short drive away, we generally find the quality and convenience of the guesthouse dining so good that we rarely feel the need to leave after a day of exploring.
