Getting to Damaraland and Kaokoveld requires a bit of effort, but the rewards are immense. We always advise flying into Windhoek or Walvis Bay and arranging a charter flight directly to a lodge airstrip if your budget allows; it saves considerable driving time. If driving, ensure your vehicle is in excellent condition and you carry spare tires, extra fuel, and plenty of water, especially if traveling outside the main tourist season.

Driving Routes
From Windhoek
Primarily tarmac roads via the B1 and C33. We recommend breaking the journey at Spitzkoppe or Erongo for a night. A 4WD is not strictly necessary but offers peace of mind on gravel sections.
From Swakopmund
Scenic route via the C34 coastal road then inland on the C32. This is a stunning drive, but be prepared for gravel roads for a significant portion. Ensure you have ample fuel and water.
