The road to Mayumba is largely unpaved and can be very challenging, particularly during the rainy season (October-May). A robust 4x4 vehicle with an experienced local driver is absolutely essential. We strongly recommend arranging transfers directly with your lodge for peace of mind.
From Libreville
While technically possible, driving from Libreville to Mayumba is an extremely arduous and time-consuming journey, often involving multiple ferries and very poor, unmaintained roads. We strongly advise against this option for most travelers; it is only suitable for the most adventurous and self-sufficient expeditions. Flying is by far the preferred and safest method.
