Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of wildlife can we expect to see around Mangorei Heights, especially near Ngā Motu / Sugar Loaf Islands?
While Mangorei Heights itself is more about serene relaxation, the real magic happens on the water. We always recommend taking a boat trip out to Ngā Motu / Sugar Loaf Islands. You're almost guaranteed to spot playful dolphins, and if you're lucky, you might even see whales during their migration seasons. The seabirds are abundant too, a constant flutter against the dramatic coastal scenery.
We're considering a family trip with young children. Is Mangorei Heights truly child friendly, and what activities are best suited for them?
Absolutely, Mangorei Heights welcomes families with open arms. While the spa treatments are a dream for adults, we found the children absolutely adored exploring the nearby beaches and the gentle boat tours around the islands. The lodge staff are excellent at arranging age appropriate activities, ensuring everyone has a memorable time.
Given the luxury price range, what are the must-do experiences at Mangorei Heights that justify the cost?
For us, the ultimate indulgence at Mangorei Heights is the spa. We highly recommend booking a massage with a view of the ocean – it’s pure bliss. Beyond that, simply soaking in the incredible sunsets from your private deck is an experience in itself. The lodge feels luxurious and timeless, offering a peaceful escape that’s hard to find elsewhere.
What's the best time of year to visit Mangorei Heights for optimal weather and wildlife viewing?
We love visiting Mangorei Heights during the New Zealand summer, from December to February. The weather is generally warm and sunny, perfect for exploring the islands and enjoying the outdoor spaces. However, the shoulder seasons of spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) offer fewer crowds and still pleasant conditions, with excellent chances for marine life sightings.
Beyond the spa, what other unique activities or excursions does Mangorei Heights offer or recommend near the lodge?
While the spa is a definite highlight, we always encourage guests to venture out. We recommend exploring the coastal walking tracks that offer breathtaking views of the Sugar Loaf Islands. Kayaking or paddleboarding around the calmer bays is also fantastic for getting up close to the marine environment. The lodge can easily arrange these excursions for you.
