    Planning & reference

Reserva Nacional Lago Rosselot offers a more intimate Patagonian experience away from the crowds of its more famous neighbours. We love the sense of raw, untamed wilderness here, where the dramatic landscapes feel truly your own. The sunsets over the lake are simply sensational, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple.

    Gate Times

Reserva Nacional Lago Rosselot is generally open year-round. Official park hours are typically from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, but we recommend checking the CONAF website for the most up-to-date information as these can vary seasonally. Entry fees apply, and while reservations are not usually mandatory for day visitors, it's wise to book accommodation in advance, especially during peak season (October to April).

    Tipping

Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory in Chile. For private guides, a tip of 10-15% of the tour cost is customary if you are satisfied with the service. For lodge staff, a general tip of $5-10 USD per guest per day, left in a communal tip box or distributed by management, is a good guideline. Rangers do not expect tips.

    Dress Code

We advise dressing in layers. For game drives and walks, opt for neutral, earthy tones to blend in with the environment. Essential items include a waterproof and windproof outer shell, warm fleece or down mid-layers, thermal base layers, sturdy waterproof hiking boots, a wide-brimmed hat, and gloves. Evenings can be cool, so pack a warm sweater or jacket for camp.

    Photography

Photography is generally permitted, but always be respectful of wildlife and avoid disturbing them. Drones are typically prohibited within national parks in Chile without special permits; we recommend confirming current regulations with CONAF before your visit. For stunning shots, focus on the dramatic landscapes, the unique flora, and the diverse birdlife. Early morning and late afternoon light offers the most beautiful, soft illumination.

    Etiquette

Maintain quiet on game drives and walks to maximize wildlife sightings and minimize disturbance. Always remain in your vehicle or designated viewing areas unless instructed otherwise by your guide. Never feed wildlife. In camp, be mindful of noise levels and respect the tranquility of the natural surroundings. We also suggest keeping a safe distance from all animals.
