    Planning & reference

The raw, untamed beauty of Nevados de Sollipulli is what truly sets it apart; we love the dramatic volcanic landscapes and the feeling of true wilderness. The relative lack of crowds means you can often have these incredible vistas all to yourself, making for a deeply personal and awe-inspiring experience.

    Gate Times

The park is generally accessible year-round, but road conditions can be challenging in winter (June-August) due to snow. We recommend checking local conditions before arrival. While there are no strict gate times, it's wise to enter and exit during daylight hours. Permits are usually obtained at the park entrance or through local tourism offices in Melipeuco. Booking is not typically required for day visits, but for overnight stays in designated camping areas, advance booking is advisable, especially during peak season (December-February).

    Tipping

Tipping is not mandatory but is greatly appreciated for exceptional service. For private guides, we suggest around 10-15% of the tour cost. For camp staff or lodge personnel, a small gratuity of $5-10 USD per day per staff member is a good gesture. Rangers generally do not expect tips, but a small thank you for their assistance is always welcome. It's best to give tips discreetly at the end of your stay.

    Dress Code

We advise dressing in layers. For game drives and hikes, neutral, earth-toned clothing is best to blend in with the environment. Think breathable long-sleeved shirts and trousers to protect against sun and insects. A waterproof and windproof outer layer is essential, as weather can change rapidly. Comfortable, sturdy hiking boots are a must. In camp, casual and comfortable clothing is fine, but bring a warm fleece or sweater for cooler evenings.

    Photography

Photography is generally permitted, but always be respectful of wildlife and avoid disturbing them for a shot. Do not use flash photography directly at animals, especially at night. Drones are usually restricted within national parks to protect wildlife and the natural environment. We recommend checking specific park regulations upon arrival. The light in the early morning and late afternoon is magical for capturing the dramatic volcanic landscapes and any wildlife you encounter.

    Etiquette

Maintain low noise levels at all times to avoid startling wildlife and to respect other visitors. Always stay on marked trails when hiking. When on game drives or walks, remain in your vehicle or with your guide unless instructed otherwise. Never feed the wildlife. In camp, be mindful of shared spaces and keep your belongings organized. Respect the natural environment by not leaving any litter behind.
