About SafariPlnr
SafariPlnr is the world's most comprehensive safari destination database. We cover 45 countries, over 13,000 national parks and reserves, 35,000+ safari lodges, and 7,000+ wildlife species - all in one free, independent platform.
Our Mission
We believe safari planning should be data-driven, transparent, and accessible. Every recommendation on SafariPlnr is backed by real data - not paid placements or sponsored content. Our goal is to help you find the perfect safari experience based on wildlife, weather, budget, and timing.
What Makes Us Different
- Comprehensive coverage - We don't just cover the popular destinations. From Kenya's Masai Mara to Madagascar's rainforests, from India's tiger reserves to Sri Lanka's national parks, we map the entire safari world.
- Real data - Wildlife checklists from GBIF and eBird, conservation status from IUCN, weather from Open-Meteo, entry fees from official government sources. We verify, we don't fabricate.
- Independent - We're not owned by a tour operator or booking platform. Our PlnrScore rates lodges algorithmically, not based on commission rates.
- Always free - All park data, wildlife checklists, weather forecasts, and planning tools are completely free to use.
Our Data Sources
Transparency matters. Here's where our data comes from:
- Wildlife: GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility), eBird (Cornell Lab of Ornithology), iNaturalist, IUCN Red List
- Weather: Open-Meteo (5-year climate archives), 7-day forecasts via open weather APIs
- Park data: Protected Planet (WDPA), OpenStreetMap, official national park authorities
- Entry fees: KWS eCitizen (Kenya), direct from national park authority websites
- Lodge data: Aggregated from multiple public sources, enriched with Google Places ratings
- Health & safety: WHO, official government travel advisories
How PlnrScore Works
Every lodge receives a PlnrScore (0-100) calculated algorithmically from: Google ratings, Expert Africa ratings, review volume, nearby wildlife density (mammal and bird counts within 20km), elevation, and climate data. No lodge can pay for a higher score.
